Darcey Wells Ward, 200 RYT
My family moved to Maine, from Vermont, in 2002. We have lived in Old Orchard Beach and Waterboro before settling in Alfred in 2008. We are happy to be raising our children in such a wonderful place. I have worked with children for over 15 years in a variety of settings including child care centers, preschools, elementary schools and human service agencies. I've also been a nanny and a licensed home child care provider. In 2007, shortly after the birth of my second daughter, I found yoga and it changed my life. For the first time in my life I felt connected to my body. Muscles that had never been used slowly began to awaken. Yoga has allowed me the find perspective in my world and the world around me. I discovered a peace within me that I never knew existed. I knew immediately that bringing yoga to others is what I have been called to do. In 2009 I attended a ChildLight Yoga teacher training, and then went through a 200 hour teacher certification training at Nataraja School of Yoga, with June Locklin, in 2010, and am currently a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance. As a teacher, I believe that yoga is for everyone and work to meet my students, children and adults, where they are at, wherever that may be. As a parent, I believe that anything that encourages families to slow down and connect is a worthwhile pursuit. As a person, I just love the way yoga makes me feel. I was originally drawn to teaching children's yoga because I feel that I have an innate understanding of kids, and have recently expanded my practice to adults, after hearing countless parents tell me that they could never do yoga because they aren't flexible enough. I don't think you have to be flexible to do yoga, you simply need an open mind and a desire to try something new.
I love yoga and I really look forward to speaking with you about the many benefits that yoga can bring to you and your child. Namaste.
